Have you ever thought about how much time getting ready takes you? How long in the morning before work? How much time you spend getting ready to go out to dinner? Add it all up and you’ll find that women spend approximately 135 days, 3726 hours, 223560 minutes, and 13,413,600 seconds in their lifetime getting ready. THAT’S A LONG TIME!
Why do we do it? Who do we do it for? What exactly is it that makes us give up this much of our lives prepping our appearance?
I hadn’t taken this time into consideration either until I started coordinating a client’s involvement in a recent event. Meet the Body Love Tour, hosted by Lindsey Smith and Amie Olson of Promoting Natural Health, where “each event is designed to give women the freedom to express themselves and be who they are.”
The mission: changing the way women feel about themselves and their bodies.
“One by one we are encouraging women to take back their time by spending less on getting ready and more time showing up into who they were meant to be.”
I was lucky enough to attend the Pittsburgh tour last week with Yoga Innovations at the Union Project. It was SO much fun and was filled with some of my very favorite things – yoga, amazing businesses, inspiring fitness professionals, and fashionable fitwear! Let me introduce you to a few of the business who encourage a healthy, active, and happy lifestyle and helped to make this event happen.
Sponsoring the event was a super cool and innovative business that I was so glad to connect with, Organically Social. Within Pittsburgh, Organically Social connects health-minded individuals and quality health and wellness experts within the community. So how does it work? It’s a membership based program that provides customers with a wide variety of exclusive savings for health and wellness products and services including visits to the spa, fitness classes, dental and chiropractic services, organically sourced groceries and a bunch more. At only $24.99 per year, this is definitely a membership you want to be apart of!
I also loved catching up with Dona Jo Fitwear, one of my favorite brands for activewear! These new patterns and prints are so gorgeous and fun!

Other businesses also in on spreading the body love were:
- Olive and Marlowe (artisanal olive oils and balsamic vinegars)
- SKINourishment (ridiculously good skincare)
- Fresh From The Farm Juices
- It Works!
- Run Intended (fitness products, workouts, tips and recipes)
- Sincerely Caroline (a health, fitness and lifestyle resource)
- Righteously Raw Chocolate
- Kadambari Arts
- SDC Nutrition (the cleanest natural protein products on the market)
- Turack Chiropractic and Performance Health
- Primal Fitness Pittsburgh
- NYR Organic (natural, organic and ethical products to suit all skin types)
- Parity Health Services
- Zola (try the coconut water!)
- Good Bean Company
- Larabar (100% whole food, and no more than 2 to 9 ingredients)
- Smart Cookie Nutrition (makers of hand-crafted cookies and ice cream sandwiches)

After guests spend time to mingle with the vendors, Kasey Arena, Founder of PowerCakes and fitness/health/food enthusiast, started off with an awesome warmup which was followed by a vinyasa yoga class co-taught by Claire and Candace of Yoga Innovations. And of course I’d be lying if I said my favorite part of the evening wasn’t yoga (find out why yoga is such an important part of my life)! If you haven’t met Yoga Innovations yet, it’s about time you do. I wasn’t getting the most out of my yoga practice until I began taking classes there (and I’m saying that as a yogi, not because they’re a client)!
After yoga, Heather Waxman, a very impressive multi-passionate soulpreneur, lead attendees in a spiritual mindful meditation session. Last by not least, the event wrapped up with a special rap performance by Pittsburgh’s own, Kellee Maize. Now, I’m typically not such a fun of female rappers, BUT I’ve seen Kellee do her thing on multiple occasions and every time she doesn’t just perform, she gives her audience an experience filled with good soulful energy!
I had such a wonderful time at this year’s Body Love Tour and I absolutely cannot wait to see what all of these amazing ladies have in store for the future!
With Inspiration,
Allyn
