Weaving Struggles into Your Story with Soul

For my skimmers, here’s what you’ll find in this post: one look (featuring leggings from How We Soul) + one life lesson. This one’s on why you should try adding some soul as you face your struggles.  The Look: How We Soul Stardust Leggings ($58) // Cobalt Katie Medium Satchel from 88 Handbags ($50) // Gracie Mansion Dramatic Bib Necklace from Carolee Jewelry (ON SALE NOW – $75) // Bryant Park Stud Pierced Earrings from Carolee Jewelry ($45) // Similar Blouse from Last Call by Neiman Marcus (ON SALE NOW – $39) // Aldo Shoes (Similar from ASOS – $66) // Styled by Christina Imberlina The Lesson: I know it’s hard. Shit happens and the first thing we ask ourselves is “why is this happening to me”. We aren’t really looking for an answer. We’re playing the victim. But this moment is just one thread in your story. Occasionally, there are excess strings. Ones that we can cut off. Ones that

Getting a Leg up by Putting Intention Behind Your Business

Instead of growing up with the golden ticket, Tasha Kendall, Co-Founder and CE sOul of How We Soul, grew up with a golden pineapple. With a smile, her mother told her that by placing a golden pineapple in front of their home, people will know they are welcome there. This concept came full circle for Tasha in college while she was volunteering in Botswana, a year that has shaped every year since – you’ll find out more about this in her interview below! She has since moved through life practicing this pineapple principle because she “saw first hand how much feeling wanted, welcomed and cared for meant” to each person. For Tasha, the experience made her realize hospitality goes beyond the home – she’s dedicated herself to living with a gold pineapple painted on her life. This is where her business, How We Soul (HWS) comes in. This Gem creates chic, active leggings (they hug your body in all

Fashion Friday: Situationally Savvy

The Look: Monaco Place Tweed Leggings c/o Neeshe New York ($145.00), Similar Top from ModCloth ($26.99), Midi Rings c/o Prickly Hearts ($6.00-$16.00), Crossbody c/o Carolee Jewelry (similar from Gigi New York – $175.00), Cuff c/o Crash Jewelry ($137.00), Steve Madden Shoes (similar from Chinese Laundry – $69.95) I had so much fun hitting the city streets to shoot this look with my fab photog Kate Stutz! Plus, it was a second chance to style my beloved Neeshe New York leggings (that are so thick and luxurious that they definitely qualify as pants). In contrast to the more relaxed look before, this time I paired them with this feminine ruffle top that I’ve, no joke, had since high school. I love it so much and it goes with my jewel toned branding, so I can never give it up! And because I know you’re swooning over these adorable, dainty midi rings, they are from Prickly Hearts, who I was thrilled to collaborate with! The

How to Wear Your Patterned Leggings

I know that styling bright, bold, patterned leggings can be tricky, some may go as far to say scary or daunting in fact (I’ve been there), but with how comfortable they are, and being a fun alternative to skinny jeans, you owe them a shot. So find your brave and get ready to grab the pair you’ve been eyeing up! THE LOOK: Summer Sunset Leggings from Lilies & Lemons Boutique ($18) // Similar CALIA by Carrie Underwood T-Shirt ($50) // Similar Urban Outfitter’s Cardigan ($59) // Similar Manolo Blahnik Boot ($837) First of all, let’s get clear that while some very special leggings do quality as pants, most patterned and printed leggings do not because the fabric tends to be thinner. I just love how beautiful the colors are in this pair from Lilies & Lemons Boutique – they really do look like a summer sunset. The fabric is so soft and smooth it’s

These Will Put An End to The Leggings as Pants Controversy

If social media is any indication, there’s a definite debate going on around the difference between leggings and pants. For quite some time, I my very self argued that leggings were not pants. Then, I discovered yoga leggings – dreamy, thick, non see-through marvels that look excellent with boots and an oversized sweater (and many other outfit options), which doesn’t even need to cover you butt if your pants do it sufficiently. (Please never leave me athleisure trend…) Anyway, we need to stop contesting and start praising this unearthly creation. As ModCloth explains, “Somewhere between tights and skinny jeans exists this miracle of style and stretch, and yet no one can seem to agree quite the right way to wear these all-purpose bottoms.” As a current, and frequent practitioner of the leggings as pants trend, I stand against the stigma that leggings are a sloppy, easy-way-out option to putting effort into
