How Do You Carry Your Story?

For my skimmers, here’s what you’ll find in this post: one look + one life lesson. This week’s is on showing your story off in style rather than letting past baggage burden you.  The Look: Odette Mini Bag from Daylin Skye Designs ($88 – use code GEMBENEFITS40 for 40% OFF!!), Pink Blazer (similar from Nordstrom – $74), Romper (similar from Shoptiques – $60), Recycled Guitar String Earrings from Restrung Jewelry ($38) The Lesson: Take a moment to write out the steps of your story (think bullet points rather than a novel). Use mine here as an example. Think about all the steps (the good and the bad) that had to happen to get you to where you are right now, on this path of following your dreams (because if you’re here reading this, chances are you’re a go getter, you want big things for yourself, and you plan to get them). You might

Creating Margins in a Floral Romper

The Look: Express Romper (Similar from Forever 21 – $19.50), Aldo Shoes (ON SALE – $45.00), Bloom Jewelry Earrings ($113.00), Francesca’s Crossbody (similar from Kate Spade – $228.00) Who doesn’t love a romper? It’s all the fun, flirtiness of a skirt or dress without having to worry about your lady bits showing! In fact, I love them so much that I have an entire Pinterest board dedicated to rompers =). This one from Express is great because the v-neckline and removable sash create such a flattering silhouette. Plus, POCKETS!!! The floral print is out of stock, but there’s a pretty cobalt blue and also a rich teal option (at $29.95, I’m probably going to go grab this color immediately after I post this =X)! I paired the romper with Aldo’s FELTRONE block heel ($45.00 – 50% off right now!) for a more dressy look, but it will go just as perfectly with your favorite flat sandal (loving

Summer Must Have: Periwinkle Shift Dress

The Look: Francesca’s Shift Dress (similar from Tobi – ON SALE for $26), Aldo Shoes (ON SALE – $45), Francesca’s Crossbody (similar from Kate Spade – $228.00), Beaded Carolee Bracelet with Charms (similar – $48), Carolee Earrings (similar – $55), Flowers from Broniak & Kraf Flowershop and Greenhouse This is my favorite outfit look to date! Everything worked out perfectly – from the flowers, to the emerald shoes, and the way the colors all came together just makes me swoon! I’ve been wearing this dress everywhere. I’m not available from Francesca’s anymore, but here’s a similar short sleeve option ($50) from Lulus.com and another from Tobi (on sale right now for $26)! It’s perfect to dress up with heels, like these amazingggg emerald pumps or with sandals or flats for a more casual look. I love the eyelet detailing down the middle, too! I’m also totally obsessed with Holl & Lane Magazine. Beyond a beautiful print publication, Holl & Lane is a community of

Unwinding Outdoors: Black Bamboo Dress

The Look: Black Liberty Dress c/o Liberty 61 ($289.00), Aldo Booties (similar from Lucky Brand – $49.99), Unusual Cut Lariat Necklace c/o Bloom Jewelry ($163.00), Silk Tassel Necklace c/o Bloom Jewelry, Similar Scarf from Nordstrom ($38.00), Similar Sunglasses from Kate Spade ($155.00), Similar Floppy Hat from Neiman Marcus ($375.00), Francescas Crossbody (similar from Kate Spade – $228.00). Here in Pittsburgh, one day it will be 90 and humid and the next, it’s 55 and you’re turning on the heat. You literally never know when you might need a transition look, even in the middle of June. On this rather chilly day, I took my Black Liberty Dress from Liberty 61 (which you also saw during my NYFW looks) and the same Aldo Ankle Booties, but wanted a more Spring appropriate look. The mosaic scarf with the floppy hat (totally out of my usual fashion comfort zone BTW – I just don’t feel like I have the right kind of

Fashion Friday: Situationally Savvy

The Look: Monaco Place Tweed Leggings c/o Neeshe New York ($145.00), Similar Top from ModCloth ($26.99), Midi Rings c/o Prickly Hearts ($6.00-$16.00), Crossbody c/o Carolee Jewelry (similar from Gigi New York – $175.00), Cuff c/o Crash Jewelry ($137.00), Steve Madden Shoes (similar from Chinese Laundry – $69.95) I had so much fun hitting the city streets to shoot this look with my fab photog Kate Stutz! Plus, it was a second chance to style my beloved Neeshe New York leggings (that are so thick and luxurious that they definitely qualify as pants). In contrast to the more relaxed look before, this time I paired them with this feminine ruffle top that I’ve, no joke, had since high school. I love it so much and it goes with my jewel toned branding, so I can never give it up! And because I know you’re swooning over these adorable, dainty midi rings, they are from Prickly Hearts, who I was thrilled to collaborate with! The

How to Wear Your Patterned Leggings

I know that styling bright, bold, patterned leggings can be tricky, some may go as far to say scary or daunting in fact (I’ve been there), but with how comfortable they are, and being a fun alternative to skinny jeans, you owe them a shot. So find your brave and get ready to grab the pair you’ve been eyeing up! THE LOOK: Summer Sunset Leggings from Lilies & Lemons Boutique ($18) // Similar CALIA by Carrie Underwood T-Shirt ($50) // Similar Urban Outfitter’s Cardigan ($59) // Similar Manolo Blahnik Boot ($837) First of all, let’s get clear that while some very special leggings do quality as pants, most patterned and printed leggings do not because the fabric tends to be thinner. I just love how beautiful the colors are in this pair from Lilies & Lemons Boutique – they really do look like a summer sunset. The fabric is so soft and smooth it’s

Everything’s Coming Up Roses with this Fashion Trend

#WomenWearingTies is not a new fashion trend. In fact, Tie Neck Blouses were a huge trend this fall. But, up until now the looks have been quite androgynous (and I get it, it’s a statement that girls can do anything boys can do – which I’m down with). Numerous greats from Beyoncé to Annalynne McCord have proven that neckties look freakin’ awesome on women, so why are all the options out there still so masculine? Meet XoMargo.com – a line of artisan neckties with a feminine touch designed just for women. Perfect for those who love to mix a bit of playfulness into their looks! Ditch the scarves and statement necklaces, and really make a statement with these effortless accessories. What is even better is that XoMargo is bringing something new and exciting to the fashion world that no one else is doing. I adore the Coming Up Roses Necktie that I styled with a skirt suit (similar

NYFW Day 4, Look 2: Body Bijou Jewelry + Rollasole

I really love walking around NYC – seeing everything, watching all the crazy people, and just exploring. So, when I travel there, I try to avoid cabs and city transportation and just walk wherever I can. But, after 4 days of that, my feet are about done, which is why Rollasoles are literally my new best friend. I first reached out to the brand about a fun shoe collaboration with Clickless Heel Protectors, but soon realized they HAD to come to fashion week with me! These savvy little saviours are the emergency footwear you’ve needed your entire life. The revolutionary roll-up design means you can neatly carry a necessary pair with you wherever you go. Keep a pair in your car, your purse, your friend’s house, desk drawer at work, and literally everywhere so you’re ready to roll when your killer heels become a pain. They’re so compact that you won’t
