It was a rainy, gloomy morning, but nothing was stopping me from wearing this bamboo jersey and linen ruffled dress from Liberty 61! Since I first received it in the mail when packing for NYFW, I knew this was going to be my look for day 1. Liberty 61 was born out of a desire to establish a socially-conscious clothing line that would be able to financially-support organizations that are making the lives of the people in their communities better. Liberty 61 clothing is for the “less is more” fashionable minimalist who places experiences and relationships at the top of their priorities instead of “things”. Live life on the edge, explore the world around you, and look great doing it. The Black Liberty Dress ($340) has it all – class, comfort, and adventure.
When wearing a statement dress like this, I’m always careful with accessorizing – I want to compliment its beauty rather than pile things on top of it. Again, we’re focusing on less is more today. I decided on this beaded necklace from Bloom Jewelry. I’m obsessed with this jewelry brand right now. In a world of out-sourcing and machine manufacturers, Bloom Jewelry’s designs are all handmade in the USA! Even better, Bloom offers lifetime jewelry repair for each piece because they get that life happens. Jewelry is an everyday luxury that we sometimes neglect to appreciate, but the right piece can add just the right amount of glamour to everything from school drop-offs, to workday desks, to romantic date nights.
I’m sure you noticed the fabulous tasseled crossbody bag too! This is from Carolee. It’s a must have for any girl on-the-go. The chain is the perfect length, which is a big deal because nothing is worse than an adorable cross body that sits unflatteringly too high or annoyingly too low. The metallic texture adds a touch of shine to brighten up my look without taking away from the character of the dress. To complete the look, I’m wearing ankle booties from Aldo.
So, where did this outfit take me? First up was the CALIA by Carrie Underwood presentation that I needed to dedicate an entire post to. Then, while waiting for our next show, we stopped by the NOLCHA Fashion Lounge. I always love meeting unique, emerging designers. I fell head over heels with these jewels from Zayver Designs!
These structure, geometric bags from Charles & Ron were also a favorite! Charles, born in Malta and Ron, originally Dutch, met in Amsterdam in 1992. Shortly after they met, Ron moved to Malta where they set up their first studio and launched their first collection. The mostly self-taught designers have become malta’s leading fashion house. The distinct Mediterranean flair and superior quality is sure to keep the momentum on this brand rising. They are definitely ones to watch.
I topped off the day with my first shows at one of the new homes of NYFW, Skylight at Moynihan Station. Tadashi Shoji dazzled the audience with elegant, fairytale gowns placed in the setting of a serene Japanese garden. Meanwhile, at Desigual, the look was free-spirited, bold, and energetic, inspired by the city of Barcelona. The Desigual show is always a favorite of mine because it’s designed for all types of women, with their lust for life, eye for beauty, and passion for self-expression. Keep an eye out for full writeups on the shows later in the week. Don’t forget to follow along with my fashion week adventures on Snapchat and Instagram: @allyn_lewis.
