I stumbled upon SoulPowered via Twitter, and I’m so glad I did! We need more strong, courageous leaders like these ladies to bring inspiration into the world.
Sarah and Nissa are sisters who have truly been through thick and thin together. Their deep bond and similar interests have brought them to where they are today: co-owners of SoulPowered, a leadership development and coaching company that, in their words, is “on a mission to generate a movement of conscious, purpose-driven leaders and organizations that improve lives and create change in the world.” In addition to providing leadership development training to individuals and organization, they also partner with non-profits such as The Africa Yoga Project! The Africa Yoga Project supports economic development and provides yoga training to Kenyans.
Clearly, Sarah and Nissa are on a mission to make the world a bit more inspired and soulful, one person at a time. Here’s wishing them continual success!
SD: Tell me a little bit about your backgrounds, and what led you to create SoulPowered.
S+N: The creation of SoulPowered has been several years in the making. Born in a family of entrepreneurs, the spirit of passionate risk-taking is in our blood. We co-owned a yoga studio in our early twenties, so we quickly learned what it meant to run a business, provide a home for our community, lead a team, make tough decisions and infuse business with love. We then went on to work in corporate America where we did much of the same. The decision to break away, join forces and establish a brand was the natural next step. SoulPowered was birthed from many, many life experiences, both incredible and devastating. As life goes, behind every dark door is a shiny, unexpected pearl of possibility. We continue to learn and grow and listen for our calling.
SD: What is it like to be working with your sister?
S+N: This is the most common question we’re asked! We’ve worked together in many capacities for years. We’re different in many ways, which works in our favor. Do we always get along perfectly? No! But that’s part of what moves the business forward, we are each 100% committed to our personal growth and development. Communication is key. At the end of the day, we have a blast, we make a great duo and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
SD: You both are very into living a healthy lifestyle- do you have any tips for the busy professional (or anyone for that matter) to stay on top of their health?
S+N: Nothing is more important than health and wellness. We believe it creates the foundation for everything – how one leads, lives, loves… Our advice for the busy professional? Do not sacrifice your health for your career. If you cannot be healthy and successful something isn’t working. Get serious about your priorities, don’t be afraid to prioritize your health, and speak up about it. Your life depends on it. Stop ignoring what you know to be true.

SD: Any advice for aspiring leaders and entrepreneurs? S+N: Don’t be too concerned that everyone “gets” what you’re up to. If some around you are scratching their heads at your plans consider that this may be a really good sign! Work to find a balance between a viable business and an idea that’s different, and dare we say, a bit crazy! Surround yourself with people that are more experienced than you. Find mentors fast. Start WAY before you’re ready. Trust yourself, you’re naturally creative. Establish your point of view, stick with it and choose to be a leader. Most of all, tell your story. You are the only one who can, and your story will heal, inspire and ignite something in others you can’t begin to imagine. SD: I’d love to know more about your partnerships with initiatives like the Africa Yoga Project- what do you do for them? S+N: We are excited to share soon about our leadership collaboration with the Africa Yoga Project…..stay tuned!
I hope you all enjoyed learning about SoulPowered as much as I did :). Keep up with their news and daily doses of inspiration on social media.
